Q. What is the Holland Christian Home?

A. We are a 501 (c)(3) not-for-profit corporation, established in 1895, certified by the State of New Jersey as a Continuing Care Retirement Community. We are a private facility and receive no funding from Medicare, Medicaid, or state or local governments. As the name indicates, our Home is a Christian residence that offers LIFECARE.

Q. What exactly is LIFECARE?

A. LIFECARE is a continuum of care given for the rest of your life, including the assurance of skilled nursing care if you should need it at any time, at no added cost. Upon admission, residents pay one fee and live worry-free!

Q. What services does the Holland Christian Home provide?

A. Most essential living expenses are paid by the Home, including:

  • A private room with bath
  • 3 delicious, nutritious meals daily
  • Physicians fees for those participating in Medicare
  • Dental fees (some limits apply)
  • Prescription medications (some limits apply)
  • Hospital charges
  • Professional medication management
  • Access to our Mountain View Nursing Unit– with round-the-clock skilled nursing care and a qualified physician always on call
  • Your choice of multiple daily activities. Our monthly calendar of events includes everything from Bible studies to day-trips!
  • Transportation for off-site medical services within a 10-mile radius
  • Enjoyment of all public areas, such as the spacious grounds, meticulously manicured gardens, chapel, library, resident computer room, coffee shops and special occasion rooms
  • Access to limited on-site bank services, available twice each month
  • Cable television
  • Laundry facilities
  • Housekeeping services
  • $50 monthly cash payment for personal needs.

Q. What are the criteria for admission?

A. Applicants must be at least 75 years of age and in relatively good health. Medical certification from an applicant’s physician and a satisfactory pre-admission physical from our medical director are both mandatory requirements.

Q. How do I apply for admission?

A. Our business office will provide an application form. Once the form is completed and returned, you will be contacted when there is availability.

Q. How long does the admission process take?
A. Once a room is available to you, the typical entry process takes about 30 days.

Q. What does it cost to enter the Home?

A. Admission to the Home as a resident requires a one-time entrance fee, plus a monthly social security and/or pension contribution. Please call us for the most up-to-date information. During the first 8 years of residency, any Social Security income in excess of the monthly contribution amount established at the time of entry is refunded to the resident. Thereafter, all Social Security income accrues to the Home.

Q. Is there a discount for couples?

A. Yes. There is a $50,000 discount on the entrance fee for married couples who jointly occupy a single room.

Q. Does the Home have a refund policy?

A. Yes. Significant refunds are made to an estate if death occurs within the first 4 years of residency. The refund depends on the length of stay, and can amount to as much as $100,000.

Q. How do these costs compare to other resident retirement and nursing facilities?

A. Over an eight year period (which is the average length of stay at the Home), our costs are significantly lower than similar facilities in our area. These costs calculate to approximately $120 per day… unheard of in the health care industry today!

Q. Must I turn over all my assets to the Home?

A. Absolutely not! All assets in excess of the Home entrance fee are retained by you. In fact, residency at the Holland Christian Home guarantees an individual’s assets from being depleted due to excessive medical bills, or an extended stay at a health care facility.

Q. Why would I want to move into the Holland Christian Home?

A. You deserve the comfort, security and fellowship of living in a Christian atmosphere, knowing that your needs will be taken care of for the rest of your life. Located on fourteen wooded acres in suburban North Haledon, the Home offers 113 private, residential rooms and a 52-bed Mountain View skilled nursing unit. With a staff of over 100, the Home offers a warm, homelike environment with the joy of Christ-centered relationships and activities, including weekly chapel services on-site and devotions at every meal. Because you must be in overall good health to apply, please contact us today!
